Congratulations to SMS Nordic's Stine Koch '21 on being recognized as Student of the Week!
"It is my pleasure to present our final Student of the Week this year," began Academic Dean Alex Lehmann during SMS's final All School Meeting for the 2020-21 academic year. "Today, we recognize a senior who has achieved excellent results throughout her time at SMS. She is a driven, hard-working, independent, and deeply intelligent young person. I have always admired her singular vision for herself and her ability to remain uninfluenced by those around her. She marches to her own beat. She is an expressive, creative writer, and she is always willing to share her interesting and important observations to the benefit of others in her class."
Her English teacher reflects that her "commitment to her work is a testament to her strong spirit. She goes in-depth with her research and strives to improve her writing and vocabulary." Mrs. Mangiacotti continues to comment that, "For most of us, the thought of writing papers for high school and college can be daunting, and we cannot imagine what that would be like to do in another language. This week's Student of the Week does it and does it well. She also has a kind heart."
Another teacher notes that she is a focused, deep thinker who constantly engages in class discussions and is especially interested in international topics. She is kind to her peers.
Her coaches comment that "When it comes to her skiing, she is a true warrior in her perseverance through many setbacks."
"Stine has shown incredible resilience during this ski season. She has been battling a long-term injury that she re-aggravated mid-season, and made the tough decision to stop racing until she had the injury under control. Her decision demonstrated a level of maturity and a view for the long-term that is difficult even for the pros to summon."
"Stine is dedicated to her craft, attentive to detail, and has extreme pain tolerance. She can also crank on the bike!"
