Stratton Mountain School’s primary athletics include five winter sports: Alpine Skiing, Freeskiing, Freestyle Skiing, Nordic Skiing, and Snowboarding. Athletes are able to compete at the highest levels and maximize their own athletic potential. On-snow training takes place at Stratton Mountain Resort as well as other local mountains.
SMS provides a successful strength and conditioning program that is based on physical testing performed in the state-of-the-art training facilities. This program develops the complete athlete by combining the most important fitness components: aerobic, anaerobic, agility, coordination, strength, and power. SMS’s goal is to understand and maximize each athlete’s potential.
In 1999, the new Stratton Mountain School campus was built to provide the highest quality athletic and academic opportunities. In 2005, the main part of the Burtscher Field House was added, and in 2014, the Air Awareness Center was constructed to round out the athletic facilities.
Fall & Spring Sports
In addition to the five main sports options, Stratton Mountain School offers a variety of competitive fall and spring sports for students to participate in. SMS teams participate in the Vermont Principals’ Association high school league and compete throughout New England and eastern New York.
Each athletic program at Stratton Mountain School offers a number of training camps throughout the year. Both on-snow and dryland camps allow students to maximize their training, even during the off-season.
