Offering a Variety of Sports

Stratton Mountain School offers a variety of sports for students to participate in during the off-season. Full-term students are required to play a secondary sport and options include:

  • Soccer

    The Soccer Team focuses on skill development both as an individual and a team. As a Division II team, SMS competes in the Vermont Principals’ Association High School State Championships.

  • Mountain Biking

    The Mountain Biking Team trains for competitions with a focus on skill-building. The team travels throughout the region for competitions and championship races.

  • Skateboarding

    The Skateboarding Team allows athletes to enjoy skating while building skills that translate directly to their winter sport. SMS has inter-team competitions, sends competitors to events, and encourages practice at the local skate park.

  • Cross Country Running

    The Cross Country Running Team competes as guests in the Marble Valley League (based in southern Vermont). Typically the team runs in five league races (with 5-7 teams), and the Vermont State meet.

  • Golf

    The Golf Team takes advantage of the school’s proximity to the Stratton Mountain Golf Course while also traveling to a variety of courses. Participants range in ability from beginner to advanced.

  • Lacrosse

    The Lacrosse Team focuses on developing skills and competitive tactics while emphasizing teamwork and having fun. The team participates in the Vermont Principals’ Association League and competes against area teams.

  • Baseball

    Stratton Mountain School had its first-ever SMS Baseball Team in the Spring of 2019, which competed in the Marble Valley League alongside several local schools.

  • Cycling

    The Cycling Team works on cycling skills, building endurance, and leg strength. The team rides 2-4 times per week with a gradual build-up of distance and intensity throughout the spring. The season culminates with a 100-mile ride.

Stratton Mountain School is an independent boarding and day school that focuses on college preparatory academics and competitive winter sports. Located at the base of Stratton Mountain, SMS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools.
