Campus Life

Residential Life at SMS

Our Mission

The mission of the residential life program at SMS is to provide all students with a safe, caring, and structured environment that fosters self-respect and respect for peers, staff, and our campus surroundings. Housing on campus consists of two dorms: the Big Dorm and the Little Dorm.

From the Beginning...

The SMS campus was built in 1999 and is within an easy walking distance of Stratton Mountain Resort. The larger residential building features 28 double-occupancy rooms and two triple-occupancy rooms. There are also two common rooms, a 150-seat dining hall, washers, and dryers.

The Little Dorm, completed in 2005, has two double-occupancy rooms and two triple-occupancy rooms. Each room is fully equipped with telephone lines and wireless internet access.

A Dedicated Group of Dorm Parents

Our dedicated group of dorm parents recognizes their role in providing a nurturing environment with clear and consistent boundaries encouraging a successful academic, social, and athletic lifestyle. Students and residential staff coexist on our quaint campus and interact in the classrooms, on the fields, in the dining hall, and the dorms. Residential staff members live in apartments attached to the dorms or in a staff apartment building.
Stratton Mountain School is an independent boarding and day school that focuses on college preparatory academics and competitive winter sports. Located at the base of Stratton Mountain, SMS is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is a member of the National Association of Independent Schools.
