Congratulations to SMS Alpine’s Tor Borgia ’25 on being recognized as our latest Student of the Week!
Tor Borgia has grown immensely since the start of the school year, proving himself to be a fun, honest, hardworking, and friendly member of the Stratton Mountain School community. Tor’s dedication to academic and athletic excellence makes him a natural leader amongst his peers. His work ethic has set a new standard of conscientiousness within the middle school population.
“He is a modern Stein Ericsson,” said Math and History teacher Melissa Oliva in her Student of the Week presentation on Wednesday. “Or, more simply put, ‘A dude of discipline on and off the snow.”
If Tor doesn’t understand something the first time, he knows what he needs to improve. Since the first day of class, teachers agree that “he has been a sponge, soaking up the academic, athletic, and social life experiences that SMS has to offer.”
“He’s a great kid with a great attitude who strives for perfection on the hill,” added his coaches. “Tor always tries to help his teammates when he can.”
Mr. Wassik says, “I’ve had the pleasure of working with Tor this entire year. He always submits his work on time, and his assignments are thoroughly done. He always has something interesting to add during class discussions and has maintained one of the highest averages in my English and Civics classes. He is kind and considerate and always has a positive attitude which sets a great example for his peers at SMS. In addition to his strong academic performance, he has gotten some impressive ski results this year and even played in some varsity soccer games last fall as a middle schooler.”
Tor’s outstanding engagement across the board demonstrated just how hungry this young man is to learn and grow.
“His natural curiosity is next level,” continued Melissa. “He's the kind of student that makes me excited about teaching!”
Congratulations to this week’s Student of the Week, Mr. Tor Borgia
