Student of the Week: March 24, 2021

Congratulations to SMS Nordic’s Miley Bletzer ’25 on being recognized as SMS’s Student of the Week!
It’s never easy starting at a new school, never mind starting at a new school amidst a pandemic.
When Miley Bletzer ’25 joined SMS last fall, the school year had already begun, leaving her with the daunting task of finding her place on a team and in a school.

“But Miley made that all look easy,” said Nordic Coach George Forbes during his Student of the Week presentation. “And she is quickly becoming an integral part of the Nordic team and the SMS student body.”

Miley’s teachers describe her as hard-working and attentive, and she has the grades to prove it. She demonstrates genuine interest in learning and bettering herself while being a quiet leader in the classroom. Her dedication to excellence does not end with her core academics, though, as Art Teacher Jenna Daly has also described Miley as “a natural artist!”

On the snow, Miley shows little to no fear. Even though SMS is still new to her, Miley has never appeared to feel out of place on the team. Her coaches say that she always brings a positive attitude, a strong work ethic, an open mind to training, and a real desire to improve every day.

And what success did that hard work bring?

“Miley has consistently finished near the top of the results, with five ascents to the top of the podium and never finishing outside the top two,” continued George. “Miley ended the season this past weekend by racing up (from 5k to 10k) and finishing as the top U16. This culminates with her scoring as the top skier for her YOB in New England and 3rd nationally on the USSA charts.”

We are saddened to see Miley go at the end of Winter Term and hope to see her smiling face back in the ShRed, White, and Blue of SMS next year.

Please join us in congratulating this week’s Student of the Week, Miss Miley Bletzer!
