Congratulations to SMS Nordic’s Fin Bailey ’23 on being recognized as the SMS Student of the Week!
SMS teachers and coaches have been continually impressed by Fin Bailey’s progression and improvement across the board this year. He has quickly proven himself to be a kind soul, a hard worker, and a humble leader within his team.
“As a vertically-challenged coach, I look up to this skier both literally and figuratively,” began Nordic Coach and Admissions Liaison Alex Jospe. “Fin’s work ethic is buoyed by his teammates and balanced by an endless appetite for jibbing around on skis and playing knockout. He is a very coachable athlete, and as he has matured, we’ve watched him figure out how to own the process.”
To top it off, Fin has already accumulated an impressive collection of podium finishes. In the U16 field this year, Fin has swept every single race in the Vermont Cup, and he doesn’t show any sign of easing up on the gas pedal.
“We have watched this skier learn when he can play on the snow and when he has to work,” continued Jospe. “At a recent race, I complimented him on how hard he’d been trying, to which he responded, ‘I WAS trying really hard!’”
According to his teachers, Fin brings the same level of focus and seriousness to the classroom.
“At some point, all students shift from being kids required to being in the classroom to young adults who want to be there and who are interested in learning,” commented English Teacher Chris Marks. “Fin is well on his way through this progression as a student.”
