Student of the Week: October 29, 2020

Congratulations to SMS Freestyle’s Jolie DeFosses ’23 for being recognized as the SMS Student of the Week!
This student-athlete is a quiet achiever with a calm strength. She is hardworking and kind. Her dedication to excellence has not gone unnoticed by staff members.

Project after project in art class, this student’s work has been exceptional,” stated Art Teacher Jenna Daly during her virtual Student of the Week presentation.

“The care and dedication she puts into her artwork are very commendable, setting a great example of what a successful artistic student-athlete looks like.”

In addition to being a talented artist, DeFosses is a dedicated student. She is consistently on the ball with her studies and unafraid to take initiative.

As another teacher added, “Jolie listens carefully to me as well as to her peers, takes notes diligently and without prompting, and is willing to revisit topics for better understanding of the material.”
Her Spanish teacher, Emily Daly, has also been impressed with DeFosses’ interest in community outreach. DeFosses joined the student council this year and is volunteering more frequently to help with community events.

According to DeFosses’s coaches, she brings the same level of commitment to her athletic training. She has not missed a single training session in nearly eight weeks, which equates to 83 training sessions in 56 days.
“This student of the week is quite the creator and genuinely wants to improve,” concluded Daly. “Also, she wears the coolest Grateful Dead shirts! Congratulations Jolie!”
Keep it up, Jolie!
