Student of the Week: October 1, 2020

Congratulations to Kaito Nakaya ’23 for being recognized as Student of the Week!
Enthusiastic, energetic, inspiring, light-footed, passionate. These are just a few of the words that SMS Snowboard Coach, Tommy Gambino used to describe Kaito Nakaya ’23 in his Student of the Week presentation.

“There is no shortage of drive in this young man,” continued Gambino. “It is as if Kaito has endless amounts of energy.”

Since arriving in late August, Nakaya has demonstrated his dedication in the weight room, on the skate ramps, on the trampolines, and in the classroom. While English is not his native language, Nakaya’s dedication to improving his language skills has turned many teachers’ heads.

“He is a courageous student who is neither daunted nor shut down by the language barrier,” said one teacher. “While his English is limited, his drive to understand is strong, and he listens with all of his mental energy.  As a result, he can discern key ideas from our class discussions and express his thoughts about them in writing.  It is inspiring to teach such a dedicated young man.”

“It seems that I forgot to mention determination and a desire always to do his best,” concluded Gambino. “I cannot wait to see this kid on snow!”

We can’t wait to see what you do next, Kaito! Congratulations on being named Student of the Week!!
