Congratulations to SMS Freeski student-athlete Charlie Gnoza ‘21 for being recognized as this year’s first Student of the Week!
Charlie has continued to impress the SMS community since the first day he set foot on campus. And while he tries to fly under the radar, those who know Gnoza best describe him as kind, trustworthy, respectful, and hardworking.
“Charlie is self-driven and creative,” said one of Gnoza’s teachers. “He is humble and kind, even with such great accomplishments.”
Over the summer, Gnoza became a primary influencer in developing a student-led social justice advocacy group. Their goal is to promote tolerance, raise awareness, and learn how to better serve as peer educators (check out their student-run Instagram account, @sms_food_for_thought, to learn more).
“It has been wonderful to come to know just how passionate Charlie is about making the world a more friendly and just place,” added another teacher. “It takes a lot of bravery, strength, and effort to stand for what is right, especially when that isn’t the easy thing to do.”
Gnoza’s coaches are continually impressed by his leadership, and positive presence in all training sessions, not to mention his exceptional performance on and off the hill.
“We get phone calls from National Team coaches telling Charlie to keep doing what he’s doing,” said one of his coaches. “Even National Team alpine coaches have invited him to alpine camps based on his Skills Quest test results… even though Charlie is a Freeski athlete!”
We are ecstatic to celebrate Charlie and all of his extraordinary accomplishments. Keep up the great work, Charlie!
