STRATTON- Stratton Mountain School alumni Jay Poulter '20 has qualified for U.S. Ski and Snowboard's 2020-21 National Development Group, the highest level of recognition below the U.S. Ski Team.

“The Stratton Mountain School community is incredibly proud of Jay’s accomplishments,” said Carson A. Thurber, Head of School. “Jay has grown as an athlete and student since joining us in the sixth grade, and he quickly became a mentor within our student body. He excelled through every stage of our Alpine Program and we are excited to see what he achieves in the coming season.”

The National Development Group is comprised of the best 15-20-year-old alpine athletes in the country, and are the first to be considered for invitations to U.S. Ski & Snowboard’s Alpine D-Team projects. Jay is among this next level group of athletes and will engage in at least one meaningful crossover project alongside the National Team this season.

“Jay Poulter is an incredible competitor and is well-deserving of this nomination,” said Alpine Program Director, Mike Morin.  “On race day, Jay is the one who can step it up a notch and take advantage of any given situation.”

Jay graduated from Stratton Mountain School in June 2020 and had a very successful season, qualifying for the US Junior National Championship Team and competing in the Austrian National and Junior National Championships.

“Jay really proved himself this year in Europe, showing he is competitive with his international peers, as he captured 3 U18 podiums during the Austrian Championships,” Alpine Program Director, Mike Morin continued. “This designation will give Jay the opportunity to spend time with his strong peer group and return to train at Stratton Mountain School when his schedule allows. We wish him good luck in the years to come!”
