SMS Freestyle Concludes FIS NorAM Tour

The 2020 FIS Freestyle NorAm Tour finished up at Killington Resort last weekend.
The 2020 FIS Freestyle NorAm Tour finished up at Killington Resort last weekend. This year SMS Freestyle fielded a strong FIS Program with two ladies and three men on the NorAm Tour: LuLu Shaffer, Skylar Slettene, Peter Tiktinsky, Harrison Schunk, and Henry Kosinski. The NorAm Tour is a challenging travel/competition schedule, testing the athletes’ abilities to stay balanced with their health, travel, performances, and academics. The FIS/EPG Team travelled to four mountains over the course of four weeks in the US and Canada: Deer Valley, Utah to Calgary, Alberta to Val St-Come, Quebec, and finishing in Killington, Vermont.

LuLu Shaffer ‘17 was the top finisher for SMS at these events. She completed her most successful NorAm Tour, finishing overall in 7th position and 6th in the US rankings. Her highlights include finishing in the top 20 at all NorAm events, 6th in Deer Valley, 4th in St-Come moguls, and a first place finish in Val St-Come dual moguls. LuLu was consistently one of fastest females on the tour and moved up in the FIS rankings. Our rookie member Skylar Slettene ‘22 was able to get her first starts on the NorAm tour; her top finish was in Killington: 22nd place. Skylar is on her way to Junior Nationals this week in Winter Park, CO. The Men’s team also put down some nice skiing this season with high degree of difficulty runs and fast skiing.. Peter Tiktinsky ‘16 finished as the 19th US skier on the tour, just ahead of his teammate Henry Kosinski ‘19 in 20th. Peter’s top finish was in dual moguls at Val St-Come, finishing in 14th position. Henry’s top finish was in Val St-Come moguls where he just missed finals in 17th place. Henry and Skylar are competing at Junior Nationals in Winter Park, CO this week, along with regional team members: Spencer Latterman, Will Haljun, Elliot Deleger, Gavin Tobey, Nicholas Scheid, Wyatt Boyle, Charlotte Kosinski, and Jolie DesFosses. The EPG team of LuLu, Peter, and Harrison are training at home this week and will then join Henry, Gavin, Skylar, Charlotte and Jolie in Squaw Valley, CA for US Championships from March 19-22.

A big thanks to all of our parent supporters along the way this winter and especially to the huge fan base of current and alum athletes and their families that showed up to cheer on the squad at Killington last weekend for the NorAm Finals.
