Student of the Week, March 11

Congratulations to Bode Raffa `22 for being recognized as the SMS Student of the Week!

As said by SMS Freeskiing Coach Liam Downey:

Only a few short months ago, Bode was not yet ‘student of the week’ material. There was a brief period where, when things didn’t go to plan during training sessions, he would ski over to the side of the trail and do violence to his own skis. In one case, he even removed his helmet and spiked it on the snow so hard that it cracked in half. But as an elite Ski Academy, we are nothing if not a place for kids to rein in their angry, competitive winds and harness them for positive use.

That is exactly what Bode has done. He’s still a perfectionist and he holds himself to an impossibly high standard both on and off the hill.

His teachers paint a picture that we can all corroborate: he cares very deeply about his work and has discovered a newfound patience over the past few months. His patience and dedication are reflected in his competition results—he was runner up to our own Max Siudak `22 at the FIS even in Copper, qualifying him for all Rev Tour Slopestyle competitions for the next year as well as the upcoming Quebec NorAm at the end of the month.

Bode, you have come so far and you’ve battled through a lot of shin pain and starting gate nerves to get to where you are today. Keep doing your thing, kid.”
