Who Should Apply?
Athletes in grades 6-8 (and grade 9 on a case-by-case basis), currently enrolled in a competitive winter sports program in freestyle skiing or snowboarding.
Space is limited to 4-6 athletes per session. Participants will be accepted on a rolling admissions basis. Once accepted, participants must submit payment within 48 hours to secure their spot. Please click here to complete an application.
YGP athletes will train both on and off the hill alongside the SMS athletes and work with the SMS coaching staff. Participants will also train in the Air Awareness Center and check out an SMS class.
The SMS faculty will tutor the participants to keep them up to date with schoolwork from their home schools. Once accepted, participants are asked to complete the Academic Information Form to help us ensure that we provide the best academic support. Participants will have tutorial sessions and will study in the evening, but they will not have the same amount of daily classroom time as they would if they were at their home school.
The home school must provide SMS with all coursework that is expected to be completed during this time. In order for SMS to effectively plan tutorial arrangements, we request that the following information be provided prior to or at the start of the camp. SMS does not contact the home school unless tutors have questions about the assignments the home school has provided.
- Contact information for the participant’s guidance counselor and/or teachers
- Daily assignments and handouts
- Projects, quizzes, and tests
- Answer keys to all quizzes and tests
- If the home school utilizes a web-based portal to post this information, please arrange for SMS to be provided with access
Please note: SMS tutors are not expected to create new curriculum, coursework, quizzes or tests; therefore, full cooperation and support from the home school is essential for a successful tutorial arrangement. SMS will only provide tutorial support in core courses (English, History, Math, Science and Spanish/French).
Please contact Jim Sullivan with any academic questions.
This is a day camp, but housing may be available upon request.
