The SMS Freeskiing Program philosophy is to give the athletes the tools to pursue excellence in education and college-preparatory academics. The Freeski Program aims to help athletes develop through a high-quality conditioning program, culminating in age/skill-level appropriate on-snow competitions.
On snow, the Freeski Team trains at Stratton and Mount Snow, utilizing the best terrain parks in the East. Each morning, athletes go to either Stratton or Mt. Snow and begin the day with a warm-up run to inspect the features and then take laps through the park or halfpipe throughout the morning.
Off the hill, the athletes engage in rigorous training and conditioning using freeweights, kettlebells, and trampoline training (including two Olympic fly-beds and Supertramp) all within the world-class SMS Air Awareness Center. Throughout the year, athletes are tested and evaluated on core strength, cardio performance, balance, nutrition analysis and overall scholastic performance.
Our final goal is to ensure the traveling athlete is prepared for life on the road. Coaches work alongside teachers and staff to deliver the essential tools athletes need to stay ahead of the academic curve and achieve the highest standards.
