VARA Selects Harrison DiGangi `21 as Recipient of George Tormey Award
According to VARA, the recipient of the George Tormey Award “excels at a second sport and best displays a strong work ethic, strong character, and a deep love of sport.”
“I feel very honored to have received the VARA George Tormey award,” DiGangi said. “I am grateful for all of the support that my family, peers, SMS, and VARA have given me in pursuing my passion for both skiing and golf.”
“Harrison is a very established golfer as well as a ski racer—he is very focused in both, and really successful in both,” said SMS Head FIS Coach Matt Prendergast. “I’m really looking forward to seeing him build off of the progress he made last season and at our camps this summer.”
DiGangi will be recognized at the VARA Gala, to be held on October 19, 2019 at Okemo Resort. According to organizers, “the Gala is a celebratory event as well as a night to recognize deserving VARA members past and present for their exceptional accomplishments in alpine ski racing.”
“This is a great award for Harrison to be honored with,” added SMS Alpine Director Mike Morin. “It exemplifies his abilities in multiple sports and shows how we at SMS encourage athletes to be multi-sport. We love to see our student-athletes have success in not only ski racing, but any sport that helps them become well-rounded athletes.”
