Pollard wins Regional "Voice of Democracy" Essay Contest
SMS student Clarissa Pollard (Nordic ‘19) has won the Southern Vermont regional division of the VFW’s Voice of Democracy Essay Contest for her essay, “Why My Vote Matters.” Last month Clarissa came in third place in the local contest, sponsored by Manchester VFW Post 6471, behind fellow SMS student James St. Ville (Alpine ‘19), who placed first. Clarissa’s win in the regional division—encompassing Bennington and Windham counties—will allow her to compete against other regional winners in the Vermont VFW competition. The winner of that essay contest will then be entered into the national competition, in which the first and second-place winners will win a trip to Washington D.C. to present their essays at the national VFW convention. Clarissa will attend a special dinner for the Vermont regional winners in White River Junction on January 19, where the winner of the Vermont VFW Voice of Democracy Essay Contest will be announced.
