Girls Soccer loses 5-1 to MAU

October 05, 2018
The SMS Girls soccer team lost to Mount Anthony Union High School 5-1 at their home game on Oct. 4. MAUHS was “by far the most skilled team we have played against” this season according to Coach Jesse Mallis, and their quick transitioning alongside precise passing proved difficult to defend. All of the opposing players came to the field with a wealth of individual skills, he said, and though the SMS girls have improved their passing immensely so far this season the team was caught playing defense early in the game.
SMS showed relentless defensive play from Jane Gutchess and Chloe Lathrop, with Grace Palmer also making her presence felt after a brief absence from the SMS roster due to injury. SMS’ only goal was from senior Sophia Holm’s 35 yard blast, catching the keeper off her line and putting it right over her head.
The SMS Girls Soccer team plays on their home turf tomorrow at 2 p.m. against Twin Valley.
