Boys' Soccer loses hard-fought game against Twin Valley
October 09, 2018
The boy’s soccer team was defeated 6-2 by the skilled Twin Valley squad on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Twin Valley came out of the gate with extreme energy and aggressiveness which provided an onslaught of offense in the first half. It started with a penalty kick for a score 10 minutes into the game. That goal was quickly followed by a header off a cross from the right side, and soon thereafter a goal off a rebound for quick 3-0 lead. SMS finally got its bearings and began to match Twin Valley’s physicality which created some opportunities in the latter half of the period, but ultimately SMS failed to score. Twin Valley tallied an additional score before half leaving SMS at a 4-0 deficit at the break.
In the second half play evened out. Twin Valley was first to score, but SMS responded on a Lucas Wiacek free kick right outside the penalty box which made the score 5-1. Twin Valley was awarded another penalty kick which they converted. SMS then tallied the final score on a hustle follow-up by freshman Alex Wasyliko.
Overall it was a tough day for the SMS boys. They will re-group and take to the field once again on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in Rutland to face Mount St. Joseph Academy.
