Boys' Soccer Defeats GMVS, 6-4

October 06, 2017
The SMS boys’ soccer team traveled to Green Mountain Valley School (GMVS) on Thursday, October 5th and defeated the rival ski academy 6-4 in a high scoring match. Lucas Wiacek tallied the first of his three goals early in the first half with a hard and low shot from a tough angle on the right. Ten minutes later SMS was awarded a penalty kick which Wiacek netted for his second goal. GMVS then scored on a deflection making the score 2-1. Shortly before intermission, Wiacek drilled a hard shot for his third score, completing the hat trick.
SMS came out firing in the second half when Henrik de Jounge scored a nifty goal using his usual skill and guile. This was followed by Adam Witkowski bursting into the penalty box to drill a header into the upper right corner on a hard cross from Wiacek.
GMVS increased their intensity and scored on a defensive miscue by SMS. They were then awarded a penalty kick which they netted making the score 5-3. GMVS scored yet again on a nice cross from the left and a perfectly placed shot. It was now a one goal game.  Liam Mooney settled the defense and SMS took control at midfield again. With just a couple of minutes left Bobby Stevenish scored a nice goal off of a bouncing ball which Kai Terashima perfectly popped over the head of the defender for the assist. The game finished with a score of 6-4, SMS claiming the victory over GMVS for the first time in more than 5 years.
