She graduated from The Pennsylvania State University, Schreyer Honors College with a B.S. in Kinesiology and from Boston University with an EdM in Health Education. Kate’s interests include running, yoga, hiking and mountain biking.

Matt brings a plethora of endurance sports experience from both a competitive, coaching and educational background to SMS. His 12 years of Nordic coaching has included private school head coach, collegiate NCAA, Junior National and International trips. This has provided him exposure to all aspects and levels of the sport.

Culinary Institute of America - A.O.S.
Michael Crane joined SMS as the Food Service Director in the summer of 2015. He came to SMS after working as the Executive Chef for Bennington College, where he led a culinary team of 13, providing more than 6,000 meals a week. Prior to that, he was a Corporate Chef and Food & Beverage Director for Intrawest in Denver, where he worked at major ski resorts throughout North America including Stratton, Whistler Blackcomb and Copper Mountain. While working for the contract food service provider Aramark, he led Culinary Operations for the Athletes Village during the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece, Senior Chef for the 2000 Summer Olympics in Australia and 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, his professional experience spans more than 25 years in food service.

Emily Daly returned to SMS in 2013 as a Spanish Teacher, a position that she also formerly served in from 2007-2009. She earned her Masters degree in International Educational Development from Boston University and her undergraduate degree in Spanish from Smith College. She lived and studied in Spain for two years and has worked in various non-profit settings including the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center, an intergenerational literacy program for refugees and immigrants living outside of Boston, and helped launch a community-based health worker training program in rural Nicaragua. Emily is also the Director of Student Leadership at SMS.

Jenna Daly joined SMS as the art teacher to help implement the enhanced art curriculum. Jenna has taken full advantage of the spacious new studio in the PK Education, Arts & Student Center. Jenna graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.A. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Studio Art. Most recently, she has been a commissioned painter for the Portraits of a Man’s Best Friend project in Arlington, VT. She has also coordinated a farm-to-school program at MAUMS in Bennington and has been a farmhand and manager for Clear Brook Farm in Shaftsbury. Jenna is the sister of SMS Spanish teacher Emily Daly.
