Under Sverre’s guidance, SMS has placed 15 Cross Country skiers on the U.S. Olympic team and has had at least one World Junior Team member and at least one Junior National Champion for 21 straight years. Sverre was a 1988 U.S. Ski Team Olympic Team Coach and was recognized as the USSA Coach of the Year in 2001, 2003, and 2009. Additionally, he is a three-time Junior World Team coach and has been a U.S. Ski Team Regional Coach.


Matt Boobar

Matt Boobar brings a plethora of endurance sports experience from a competitive, coaching, and educational background to SMS. Throughout his 15 years of coaching, Matt has been the Head Coach at the Holderness School and the Assistant Coach for Colby College. He has also coached numerous Junior National and International trips, providing him exposure to all aspects and levels of the sport. Matt was recognized as the NENSA Coach of the Year in 2009 and is an eight-time New England Junior National Team Head Coach. He is also a two-time World Champion and four-time National Champion in X-tera.


Patrick O’Brien ‘06

Patrick O’Brien is entering his fourth year as the coach of the SMS T2 Elite Team. He coaches an impressive group of ten athletes, seven of whom are current U.S. Ski Team athletes, four of those being former Olympians. Patrick’s experience as an athlete includes being an alum of SMS, captain of the Dartmouth Ski Team, NCAA All-American, and a four-year career as a professional athlete and World Cup competitor. As a coach, Patrick has been selected by USSA to work on trips to the Europa Cup and World Junior Competitions.
