    Matt Boobar brings much endurance sports experience from competitive, coaching, and educational backgrounds to SMS. He brings 27 years of coaching nordic skiing, cycling, and XC running, including:
    • Head Coach at the Holderness School
    • Assistant Coach for Colby College
    • Five-time USA World Junior Championships team coach
    • 13-time New England Junior Nationals head coach, helping lead the team of 50 athletes and 12 coaches to 11 national titles. 
    • 2020 USA Youth Olympic Games coach
    • 2009 NENSA Coach of the Year
    • Eastern Junior Representative on the US and Ski and Snowboard Junior Nordic Committee.
    Matt has also had the opportunity and pleasure of working with many successful athletes and alumni during his tenure.
    • Three-time USSS Nordic Club of the Year, four-time Junior Nordic Club National Champions, NENSA Club of the Year
    • Seven National Team Placements
    • Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals at ‘20-22 at World Junior  Championships
    • U23 World Cup Champion
    • Two NCAA Champions
    • 19 Junior National Champions, earning dozens of gold medals and over 100 All-American finishes
    This extensive experience has provided him invaluable exposure to all aspects and levels of the sport.
    In addition to coaching the Nordic team, he created and coached the SMS mountain bike team to two undefeated seasons, two New England and five western division championships. He is also a two-time World Champion, four-time National Champion in Xterra, and seven-time New England Mountain Bike Champion. Matt resides in Peru, Vt, with his wife, Kate (SMS Director of Sports Medicine), daughters Aspen and Sierra, and dog, Scout.

    George Forbes joins the SMS Nordic team following two seasons as a Winter Term coach both at SMS and with the West River Nordic program. George is an avid skier and sports photographer and, alongside coaching, also teaches photography at SMS in the Fall and Spring. He is helping to coach the SMS Cross Country Running and Baseball teams during the offseason.

    Alex Jospe joined SMS in 2019, after 13 years as a volunteer coach for the Cambridge Sports Union junior ski team. She brings leadership and technical experience from regional to international level trips and races, including Junior Nationals, Junior Worlds, and USST camps. 
     
    To her coaching profession, Alex brings goal setting, leadership, empathy, and attention to detail and analytics, honed over a previous life as an environmental consultant and GIS professional. Her number one priority is that every athlete feels supported in their quest to achieve their individual goals and pursue excellence on their terms.
     
    Jospe's athletic endeavors have never strayed far from the world of endurance sports, from captain of the Colby Nordic Ski Team to a prominent member of the US Orienteering Team from 2007 - 2016, and she tries to role model lifelong competitive athletics and share her passion for outdoor activity.
