Mission Statement

Stratton Mountain School provides a unique environment that offers each student the opportunity to pursue excellence in competitive winter sports and college preparatory academics while developing strong personal values.

Founded in 1972

SMS was founded in 1972 by Warren Hellman and Donald Tarinelli.

At a Glance

  • College preparatory academic program with an impressive college acceptance record
    • Full Term Program: (September–June) open to grades 8–12 & postgraduate
    • Winter Term Program: (November–March) open to grades 7 & 8
    • Postgraduate Program: provides the opportunity to train and compete in an elite, structured environment before moving on to a college or a national team.
  • Alumni include:
    • 42 Olympians with more than 66 Olympic Team placements.
      • 2 Gold Medalists
      • 1 Silver Medalist
      • 2 Bronze Medalists
    • Over 100 National Team members
    • Countless NCAA Team members
    • Leading professionals in fields such as medicine, law, business, film, and sports.

The SMS campus is located at the base of Stratton Mountain in the heart of Southern Vermont’s Green Mountains. Facilities include:
