SMS Academy Program
2009-2010 Winter Season
SMS is excited to introduce the SMS Academy Program, a collaborative effort between SMS and STC that offers STC alpine JIII and JIV racers an opportunity to train with SMS. This program is ideal for athletes who are exploring the idea of moving into a full-time academy program. Integrated athletes are given an opportunity to experience, enjoy, and benefit from Stratton Mountain School’s coaches and facility.

Stratton Training Center athletes who participate in the SMS Academy Program will gain access to a variety of added features to their STC membership: Friday training with SMS, December-to-March race coverage, unlimited access to the SMS campus, video-review sessions, afternoon conditioning at SMS, equipment monitoring and assistance, and more.

The program is offered on an application basis to all STC JIII and JIV athletes. For more information on the SMS Academy Program, contact Carson Thurber at (802) 856-1108 or cthurber@gosms.org.

SMS Elite Summer Dryland Camp

For JI, II and III athletes: June 27-July 1, 2010
The SMS Elite Summer Dryland Camp focuses on the athletic needs of the developing ski racer. SMS's certified Strength and Conditioning coaches have created a program to maximize the athlete's off-snow training.

The strength and conditioning camp is strategically scheduled during the toughest week of the SMS summer conditioning program. As described in the sample schedule below, the athletes participate in one strength session per day. Strength sessions allow the coaches to work one on one with athletes to introduce and refine lifting technique. Lifting sessions are recorded and analyzed using Dartfish in order for the athletes to note their progression. The afternoon workouts focus on core, anaerobic threshold, speed, agility and plyometrics, depending on the day.
